Issuing of permits for event posters and estate agent signboards resumes

The City of Cape Town’s Environmental and Heritage Management Department will today, 8 February 2021, resume with the issuing of permits for event posters and estate agent show house signboards. The service was temporarily unavailable during the first 10 months of the National lockdown but is now resuming.
The City allows for estate agent show house boards and certain event posters including community, sport, art or entertainment events, to be displayed on City land along certain routes. These signs require permits stickers to be displayed on the boards and posters. Permits are issued upon application and evaluation in terms of the Outdoor Advertising and Signage Bylaw, 2001, which regulates outdoor advertising and signs in the metropolitan area.
‘The City closed certain offices which offered non-essential services, in line with the COVID-19 National Government regulations. During this time, event posters and estate agent show house signboards were allowed to be displayed on City land without the required permit stickers. Event organisers and estate agents, however, were still required to apply to display their signs and were issued with approval letters. Given that the City’s non-essential staff were working from home, the City was unable to issue permits at the various district offices. With new arrangements in place, we are happy that this service is now available again to those that need it,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Marian Nieuwoudt.
The City has made available staff and resources at district offices to assist the public with the issuing of event poster and estate agent show house signboard permit stickers on appointment:

Applications can be emailed and the officials will arrange to meet applicants at the closest district office to issue the poster permits.
Event organisers and the public should note that the enforcement of unauthorised signs will continue and that event posters and other unpermitted signs will be removed.
The public can report unauthorised signs by sending an email to: enviro@capetown.gov.za with the subject ‘Unauthorised Signage.’
